Castle of Saint George
The Castle of Saint George is located 7 km southeast of Argostoli. This castle was originally built in the 12th century by the Byzantines, but Venetians gave it its present form.
In fact, this castle was the capital of Kefalonia before Argostoli was made the new capital in 1757. Castle has suffered a lot from the earthquake of Kefalonia in 1953 and today only a few buildings have survived. Close to a small square in the castle, you will also see the ruins of the Catholic Church of Saint Nicholas. On the top of the hill, where the castle is set, you can find a few restaurants and coffee bars with nice view to the valley.
